Operational Security (OpSec): Do Not Share Impact Site Media

Why you must never photograph or share images of rocket impact sites, and the legal consequences.

During and after rocket or missile attacks, do not photograph or video-record landing or impact sites and do not share such media on social media (X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp groups, etc.) or any other publicly accessible channel.

This is against the law. Under Israel’s emergency regulations and military censorship rules, publishing images or videos that reveal the precise locations of rocket or missile impacts is a criminal offense. The IDF Military Censor (Tzenzura) actively enforces these restrictions.

Why this matters

  • Enemy intelligence: Sharing impact locations helps adversaries calibrate their fire and assess the effectiveness of their attacks. This directly endangers lives.
  • Ongoing operations: Publishing this information can compromise active military and emergency response operations.
  • Legal consequences: Violators may face prosecution under emergency regulations.

What you should do

  • Wait for official statements from the IDF Spokesperson or Home Front Command before sharing any information about attacks.
  • If you see impact-site media being shared on social media, do not reshare it.
  • Report posts that reveal impact locations to the platform so they can be removed.
  • Share only information that has been officially cleared for publication.
